From September 10 to September 14, a team consisting of employees, nurses and doctors organized by Longrich Loving-family Ophthalmology Charity Foundation visited two primary schools (Mudu Migrant Workers’ Children School and Huanglu Private School), which are primarily intended for the children of migrant workers
The doctors and nurses from Suzhou University-affiliated Lixiang Ophthalmic Hospital gave each of the 3,000 students a careful examination for strabismus and amblyopia. Also, medical records would be kept for those suffering from eye problems so as to give them a further check. The team will also apply to Longrich Loving-family Foundation for a free treatment on needy children who are confirmed to be suffering from strabismus and amblyopia.
As the charitable activity coincides with the Teachers’ Day and the beginning of the fall semester, the school children were very cheerful. As gifts, children offered beautiful flowers to their teachers. When boys were excited in front of the cameras, girls were relatively quiet and reserved. During the break, the playground was full of happy and agitated scene from the kids and when the bell rang, everybody rushed for class.
A happy and healthy childhood is very important to any children. Statistics shows that over 12million children (accounting for 3%~5% of children under the age of 16 in China) are suffering from amblyopia and over 1% of Chinese children are suffering from strabismus. Strabismus and amblyopia have become a big threat to the health of Chinese children and teenagers. Unfortunately, over 80% of those sufferers failed to be treated in a timely and correct manner. The cruel data means these children are constantly plagued by being unable to see words or characters clearly on the blackboard or written by themselves. Worse still, because of poor eye sight, these children find hard to concentrate attentions, and they can easily trip, fall and are unable to take part in sports activities. What’s more, these children suffering from amblyopia or strabismus can feel depression, inferiority, autism and some of them even go to extremes due to mental misery or discrimination and sneer from others.
Over the past 28 years, Longrich has assumed its social responsibilities and provided constant support to Chinese cultural, sports and charitable activities. Longrich will provide further support to charity in return for society and consumers. Longrich Loving-family Ophthalmology Charity Foundation is aimed at helping the disadvantaged with an emphasis on children suffering from strabismus and amblyopia. Since its establishment in March, the Foundation has actively collected information on children suffering from strabismus and amblyopia and has successfully cured 14 children sufferers so far.
